“Afrikan IP” .... 36 x 48 in. mixed media - IP In·ter·net Pro·to·col noun 1. a set of rules governing the format of data sent over the Internet or other network. In today’s society where we have become so over inundated with technology one can easily lose touch with not only humanity, but their cultural identity. Afrikan IP is an examination of how technology can serve as a means to reconnect us to our lost stories and stolen legacies, as well as be used as a tool to divide and conquer. Afrikan IP was created live at the Ensemble Theatre for the Houston Museum of African American Culture’s 2018 gala honoring ballet legend Lauren Anderson, Tony Award winner Sarah Jones, and philanthropist Eileen Lawal. My hopes is that this piece will encourage you to research your ancient origins and discover your source code.
